Good neighbors : Thyme, Rosemary, Sage, Dill , Garlic, Onion, Celery, Potato, Chamomile aromatic herbs and nasturtium Bad neighbors : Strawberries, tomatoes and grapes
Frost resistant: Yes Root system: 45-90 cm
Fertilization : In the beginning, give these cabbages a lot of nitrogen (nettle manure, cow manure, ...) after planting, after two weeks you can switch to comfrey manure . Too much nitrogen causes too much leaf and too little fruit. Preferred soil: pH: 5.9-6.1 water-retentive soil
Dangers and concerns : Cabbage fly and cabbage whites are the biggest dangers. A cabbage collar can help against cabbage fly, but you are only playing it safe with insect netting
Harvesting and storing : The small cabbages are found at the base of each leaf. These can be harvested when they have a diameter of 3 to 5 cm. Harvest them when they are still tight, once the leaves open you are a little too late. When you harvest, remove the leaf under the sprout. Then the plant will continue to produce for a very long time. Harvest before the leaves turn yellow. The plant can tolerate light frost. You have the best harvest on sunny days with light frost. In the earlier warm periods you can harvest 2 to 6 sprouts per plant every 7 to 14 days. When it gets colder you can harvest 10 to 15 sprouts every 3 to 4 weeks.
