Apple tree 'Gala'

Low stem 80cm high - 5 litre pot. The Gala apple tree is known for its medium sized, sweet apples with a red to yellowish skin. These juicy apples are popular for fresh consumption and have a crisp texture. The tree thrives in a sunny position with well-drained, fertile soil and needs regular watering, especially during dry periods. The Gala is partly self-pollinating, but yields improve considerably with cross-pollination with varieties such as Elstar or Cox's Orange Pippin. Pruning in late winter promotes healthy growth and fruiting. Harvest the fruits in September for the best flavour. The Gala apple tree is a popular choice for both gardens and orchards.

Low stem means that the tree is grafted onto a slow growing rootstock, which means that the trees bear fruit faster and grow less tall. The advantages of this are that they are suitable for smaller (vegetable) gardens, so that you can grow more varieties in the same space. It is also handy that you can harvest easily, safely and without a long ladder.

In the fall, the soil is still warm and moist, which means the trees will take root well in the soil. Plants that are planted in the fall have a better developed root system than plants that are planted in the spring. They will also grow better and can better withstand periods of drought. Because the trees are delivered in pots, they can be planted all year round.
