Want to install a smart irrigation system so your garden gets water automatically? This practical step-by-step guide will teach you how to install a reliable irrigation system yourself, suitable for connection to a tap or (rainwater) pump . This way, your plants always get just the right amount of water, without having to use a watering can or hose every day.
At Plukkers, we opted for a reliable system that doesn't leak and won't let you down. Water is a precious commodity . If you connect everything correctly, you prevent waste and are assured of years of convenient use.
Step 1 – Preparation: Map out your garden
A good irrigation system starts with a good plan. Draw out your garden and indicate where the plants, borders, paths, and lawn are located. This way, you'll know exactly where to:
- want to lay the main line
- installing drippers , drip hoses or a sweat hose
- need couplings or taps
By planning in advance, you can install in a targeted manner and you can be sure that you have all the parts at home.
Step 2 – Choose your water source and control
Our system connects to a standard ¾-inch tap or a pump. If your connection is different, use an adapter.
What is the capacity?
With normal water pressure (2.5 to 4 bar) you can:
- Watering 250 plants with drip irrigation
- or use 250 meters of sweat hose or drip hose
Too much pressure? No problem: all our drippers and hoses have a flow regulator .
Not enough pressure? Then divide your garden into multiple circuits . Use a water distributor to supply each circuit separately.
Manual or automatic?
Want to water more than 250 plants? Then divide your garden into several circuits . Connect these circuits to a water distributor , which you then connect to your tap.
Next, you choose whether to operate the system manually with a tap or automatically with a water computer . This computer connects to the tap and is easily configured using buttons. If you're using multiple circuits, you'll need a water computer for each circuit .
Think in advance about:
- How many plants do you want to water?
- Is your water pressure or pump powerful enough?
- Do you want to switch manually or work automatically?
- Are you going to expand later?
