The different varieties of lettuce seed
Winter cultivation in the greenhouse or greenhouse
In a greenhouse, you can sow your lettuce seeds in September to harvest throughout the winter. I'm using cut-your-own lettuce, which you can harvest after four weeks. The more you pick, the more lettuce you'll get. In the video below, you can see Tom's winter greenhouse. Also definitely try Mizuna or Mustard Lettuce ; you'll be amazed by its flavor and crunch.
Early cultivation in the greenhouse
In January, we always sow lettuce again, the May Queen lettuce. It's frost-resistant and delicious. If you want a red lettuce, you can sow Wonder of the Four Seasons . It tastes wonderful.
Summer cultivation
For summer cultivation, we often choose Appia, the buttery-soft everyday lettuce. It's great in sandwiches, on barbecues, or in salads. Summer lettuce is best sown broadcast. This means you broadcast the seeds in a 50cm x 50cm square and cover with some garden soil. The small seedlings can be pricked out at the correct planting distances.
