Crocus sativus, better known as the Saffron Crocus, is an organic, autumn flowering bulb plant that provides the precious saffron threads. The beautiful purple flowers appear in October-November and contain bright red pistils, which are used as a spice after being harvested by hand and dried. The harvest takes place in the early morning, as soon as the flowers have just opened, in order to pick the saffron threads by hand and then dry them. Saffron Crocus thrives best in a sunny location in well-drained, dry soil and reaches a height of about 10-15 cm.
