Growing tips

Plant the rhizomes in early spring from March to April in the open ground. Plant them with the buds facing upwards, about 45 cm apart.

It is important to keep the soil moist, but avoid waterlogging. Regular watering, especially during dry periods, is essential for healthy growth. Remove weeds regularly to prevent competition with the horseradish. The use of mulch can also help retain moisture and reduce weed growth.

Generally speaking, horseradish requires little maintenance. As the plant grows, it will develop its characteristic spicy root, ready to be harvested when the plant is mature. Harvesting is possible from September to March. The longer you wait, the thicker the root will be. The roots are at their thickest after 18 months.

Harvesting can be done by completely or partially uprooting the plant and digging out the roots. After digging out, be sure to leave a piece of rhizome in the ground. A new plant will grow from this in the spring.
