Pheromone trap for leek moth
The female leek moth lays small white eggs on the upper leek leaves. These eggs hatch into white, yellow, and greenish-white caterpillars. They feed downwards through the upper leaves, first scraping the leaf surface, creating galleries and then holes. Later, they can also bore into the center of the leek plant, causing even more damage.
Want to protect your leek plot from the leek moth? Then use our leek moth pheromone trap. You'll find that this is an organic way to combat the leek moth.

Leek moth pheromone
The pheromone is infused with the scent females emit to attract males. It's a species-specific sex pheromone. This trap will only attract male leek moths.
The males, attracted by the sex pheromone, fly toward the scent and land on the adhesive plate. One pheromone capsule is effective for six weeks. After that, the pheromone capsule must be replaced with a new one.
The pheromone is placed directly on the adhesive base or in the pheromone holder under the roof of the pheromone trap.
What does the pheromone trap do?
A pheromone trap is a tool for capturing the leek moth in your area. The more males are captured, the fewer females can be fertilized. Less fertilization leads to fewer egg layings and therefore fewer harmful caterpillars.
The pheromone trap will help you eliminate the leek moth population. Because fewer or no more moths are flying in your area, the damage will be minimal or even nonexistent. Depending on the number of leek moths in your area, you'll see good results the same year or after several years.
When to hang out the pheromone trap?
The leek moth has two flight periods. You should hang the pheromone trap during these two periods.
-
1st flight: mid-April to end of May: first capsule
-
2nd flight: end of June - mid-August: second capsule, possibly a third capsule in a warm summer.
If you missed the first flight period, it's definitely worthwhile to hang a pheromone trap during the second flight period. The larvae that emerge from the second generation of moths are much more numerous than those from the first generation. These larvae cause the most damage to late autumn leeks and winter leeks.
How many leek moth traps should I hang?
In a private garden, it is sufficient to provide one pheromone trap for your leek plot.
Where do I hang the leek moth pheromone trap?
The leek moth can infest leeks, onions, shallots, and garlic. The pheromone trap is best hung just above the vegetables you want to protect. Push a stick into the ground, preferably one with a V-shape at the top, so the pheromone trap can be easily hung.
Don't place the trap directly on the ground to prevent the adhesive base from becoming dirty from splashing rain. Secure the trap so it can't blow away in strong gusts of wind.
Storing pheromones
Store the pheromones in a sealed container in the freezer to maximize the pheromone scent. You can use pheromone capsules stored in the freezer the year of purchase and the following year. Never store pheromone capsules at room temperature for extended periods, as this will cause the pheromone to lose its potency.
Buy pheromones separately
Since the delta trap can easily be used for three years, you can purchase the adhesive bases and pheromones separately in our webshop.
