This tree produces unique, golden brown fruits with a surprisingly sweet flavour, which ripen in October-November. The medlar Westerveld is ideal for smaller gardens and blooms with white flowers in spring. For optimum growth, plant the tree in well-drained, chalky soil in a sunny to lightly shaded spot. Regular pruning promotes a healthy shape and yield. This medlar is fairly winter hardy, but may need extra protection in severe winters. The Westerveld is an excellent choice for a special fruit harvest.
