Red currant/bunch currant (Ribes rubrum 'Jonkheer van Tets') BIO - 2 liter pot

The red currant 'Jonkheer van Tets' is an early-maturing, productive shrub that boasts long clusters of glossy red berries as early as June. The shrub grows to approximately 1–1.5 m tall, blooms in spring with inconspicuous flowers, and produces a bountiful harvest. Its compact growth makes it easy to care for and also suitable for pots or small gardens. It grows best in fertile, well-drained soil in a sunny to partially shaded location.

Key Features

  • Harvest: early (June)
  • Taste: sweet and sour
  • Thorns: no
  • Location: sunny
  • Planting distance: 100-150 cm
  • Height on delivery: 30-40 cm (without pot)

Tips and care:

  • Planting: September to March, later is also possible, but keep in mind that you'll need to provide extra water in warm weather as the roots aren't yet well established. The currant grows as a shrub and therefore doesn't require support.
  • Pruning : Currants should be pruned in the fall. They don't require much pruning, especially not in the first few years. However, if the plant becomes too large or yields decline, some pruning may be necessary.
  • Open ground or pots: you can grow all soft fruit in pots; the larger the pot, the better they will do. They will always grow better and produce more fruit in the open ground.
