Russian comfrey (Symphytum x uplandicum 'Bocking 14') in a P9 pot

Russian comfrey 'Bocking 14' is a vigorous, perennial plant. It differs from common comfrey in that it doesn't spread like a ragweed. Its deep roots draw minerals like potassium and nitrogen from the soil, making them available to other plants. You can harvest the leaves multiple times per season; they regrow again and again.

Applications in the garden

  • Mulch: the plant suppresses weeds and keeps the soil moist
  • Compost: Adding leaves to the compost pile speeds up the composting process
  • Manure: Soak leaves for a powerful, natural fertilizer
  • Green manure: improves the soil and gives young plants a growth boost

Important!
These are hardy but not evergreen plants. In winter, the above-ground parts die back and the plant goes dormant. Therefore, when you receive the plant, it may sometimes seem like you're receiving an empty pot or a dead plant. This is completely normal: the plant is still alive and safely underground in its pot. Give it a spot in your garden, and in spring it will naturally sprout again from the underground parts.
