Fennel 'Solaris F1' BIO

Fennel 'Solaris F1' produces round tubers that can be harvested quickly. This variety is not affected by dryness or woodiness, has a subtle aniseed flavour and a juicy texture. One bag is for approximately 3 m2, and the planting distance is 40x20 cm.

Fennel 'Solaris F1' is excellent for spring, summer and autumn cultivation, a real all-rounder. The variety has little trouble with dryness or woodiness. It is a good grower that produces quickly harvestable, round tubers with a juicy texture and a subtle aniseed flavour. This variety is very suitable for the cultivation of tender baby fennels with beautiful, feathery foliage. Also suitable for cultivation in the greenhouse.

Sowing fennel in a seedbed is not advisable. Planting out from such a bed can halt growth, resulting in premature flower formation. Please note that the plants are sensitive to summer bolting. After harvesting, the tubers can be stored in the refrigerator for a few days. This should be kept fairly cool, preferably just above freezing point and at a high relative humidity in connection with the risk of dehydration.

Saving seeds

Store seeds in a cool, dry and dark place, such as a sealed box in a cupboard. Pay attention to the expiration date on the packaging and use them before that time. If the packaging has been opened, make sure it is sealed properly and check the germination capacity before use.

You can easily test the germination capacity of seeds with a germination test :

  1. Place a few seeds (for example 10) on a damp piece of kitchen paper.
  2. Fold the paper towel closed and place it in a plastic bag or place it in a sealed container.
  3. Place it in a warm place, such as on the windowsill.
  4. After a few days, check to see if the seeds have started to germinate.
