Popcorn corn 'Cinema' BIO

Popcorn corn 'Cinema' has a high starch content. This makes it possible to make your own popcorn with this corn. The corn must be completely dried before you can let the kernels pop. One bag is suitable for approx. 9 m2. The planting distance is 75x20 cm.

Popcorn corn 'Cinema' has a delicious flavour and is ideal for children. Because what could be more fun than growing your own corn and then popping it into popcorn? This is not possible with regular corn: special varieties with a high starch content are required. 'Cinema' is such a variety. Because popcorn corn has a longer cultivation period, it is important to sow this variety indoors first and only plant it out in mid-May, when there is no longer any risk of frost. Make sure the kernels are completely ripe before you harvest the corn cobs. This can be done – depending on the weather – from September. Make sure the kernels are nice and dry, then they pop best!

Saving seeds

Store seeds in a cool, dry and dark place, such as a sealed box in a cupboard. Pay attention to the expiration date on the packaging and use them before that time. If the packaging has been opened, make sure it is sealed properly and check the germination capacity before use.

You can easily test the germination capacity of seeds with a germination test :

  1. Place a few seeds (for example 10) on a damp piece of kitchen paper.
  2. Fold the paper towel closed and place it in a plastic bag or place it in a sealed container.
  3. Place it in a warm place, such as on the windowsill.
  4. After a few days, check to see if the seeds have started to germinate.
