Yellow dogwood owes its name to the yellow blossom that hangs on the tree in February-March. The fruits are generally red in color and look a bit like cherries , which is why yellow dogwood is also called dogwood cherry. Dogwoods must be very ripe to have a good taste, but are then delicious. It often helps to leave the fruits on the table for a few days to get the taste. Processing into jams or drying is also very possible.
The Juliusz variety is large-fruited and therefore has much larger fruits than a wild yellow dogwood. Yellow dogwood is very winter hardy , likes to be in the sun and forms a large shrub/tree of 4-5m high. Yellow dogwood tolerates pruning well.
Growing small fruit
In this video you will discover how we grow our favorite soft fruits: tayberry, Japanese wineberry, black raspberry, thornless blackberry and raspberries!
Product title
The Japanese wineberry belongs to the Rubus family, just like the blackberry and the raspberry. If you are a fan of raspberries , you will certainly appreciate the Japanese wineberry. The branches have a tropical appearance due to their thorns and red hairs. Although the shrub is not evergreen, it is winter hardy.
This berry has a fresh, slightly tart flavour and produces striking, bright red fruits that ripen in the summer. The Japanese wineberry flowers on the previous year's wood and forms new shoots each season that will bear fruit the following year. The plant grows to about 120 cm tall, with branches that can stretch up to 2 metres.
The fruits are rich in vitamins and are tasty straight from the hand. Despite their smaller size, they are highly valued for their taste. The Japanese wineberry is easy to maintain and attracts bees and bumblebees during flowering.
