The Fruithoes Botra are widely used in grape cultivation to protect the grapes against wasp damage, bird damage, hail and fruit flies. These bags or covers are made of a soft polypropylene membrane and therefore do not damage the fruit. In addition, the grapes ripen better in the covers because the temperature is slightly higher in these bags. This also results in the sugar content of the grapes increasing. The Botra fruit covers are applied just before the grapes discolour and remain in place until harvest. These membrane bags are also used in apple and pear cultivation.
