Pheromone trap for leek moth
The females of the leek moth lay small white eggs on the upper leek leaves. White-yellow-green caterpillars emerge from the eggs. They eat their way down via the upper leaves. First, the leaf surface is scraped off, creating galleries and then holes. At a later stage, they can also bore into the heart of the leek plant to cause even more damage there.
Do you want to protect your leek plot against the leek moth? Then use our pheromone trap leek moth. You will notice that you can combat the leek moth biologically in this way.

Pheromone leek moth
The pheromone is soaked with the scent that the females spread to attract the males. So it is a species-specific sex pheromone. So you will only attract male leek moths with this trap.
The males, attracted by the sex pheromone, fly to the scent and land on the glue plate. One pheromone capsule works for 6 weeks. After that, the pheromone capsule must be replaced by a new capsule.
The pheromone is placed directly on the adhesive base or in the pheromone holder under the roof of the pheromone trap.
What does the pheromone trap do?
A pheromone trap is a tool to catch the leek moth in your area. The more males are caught, the less females can be fertilized. Less fertilization leads to less egg laying and therefore less harmful caterpillars.
With the pheromone trap you will catch the population of leek moths. It is because there are fewer or even no moths flying in your area, that the damage becomes minimal or even zero. Depending on the amount of leek moths in your area, you will have good results the same year or after a few years.
When to hang out the pheromone trap?
The leek moth has two flight periods. During these two periods you should hang the pheromone trap.
- 1st flight: mid-April to end of May: first capsule
- 2nd flight: end of June-mid August: second capsule, possibly a third capsule in a warm summer.
If you missed the first flight period, it is certainly useful to hang a pheromone trap during the second flight period. The larvae that emerge from the second generation of moths are much more numerous than the larvae from the first generation. These larvae cause the most damage in late autumn leek and winter leek.
How many leek moth traps should I hang?
In a private garden, it is sufficient to provide 1 pheromone trap for your leek plot.
Where to hang the leek moth pheromone trap?
The leek moth can affect leek, onion, shallot and garlic. The pheromone trap is best hung just above the vegetables you want to protect. You push a stick into the ground, preferably a stick that has a V shape at the top, so the pheromone trap can be easily hung.
Do not place the trap on the ground to avoid the glue base getting dirty from splashing rain. Fix the trap so that it cannot blow away in strong gusts of wind.
Storing pheromones
Store the pheromones in the freezer in a closed jar to retain the pheromone scent as much as possible. You can use pheromone capsules that you store in the freezer the year of purchase and the year after. Never store pheromone capsules at room temperature for a longer period of time, as this will cause the pheromone to lose its effectiveness.
Buy pheromones separately
Since the delta trap can easily be used for three years, you can purchase the adhesive bases and pheromones separately in our webshop.
